Large Colony Bat Box provides ample habitat for large colonies of various British bat species such as Noctule (Nyctalus noctula), Nathusius` Pipistrelle (Pipistrellus nathusii) and Common Long-eared Bat (Plecotus auritus). The 3 internal baffles, the front & back plates, and roof are all textured with a grooved surface to provide a large variety of hanging spaces. Bats are highly sociable, and this box can accommodate large numbers as well as providing maternity space for rearing young.
A grooved, textured landing plate aids take up of bats through the rear/bottom entrance and a front exit hole allows for a clear flight path from the chamber. Both roof and floor panels are removable to allow for cleaning and inspection. The precision engineered design ensures close fitting joins to eliminate light and draft leaks. Each box comes with a mounting plate for ease of installation.
All of our boxes are made by hand to order. We aim to ship all boxes in 5 to 7 days of order placement.
However, at busy times this can be up to 3 weeks due to the nature of hand finishing each product.
The exceptions to this are Apex boxes and Bespoke boxes which can take up to 4 weeks to make.
We currently only ship to addresses within the UK.
Our boxes are made from 18mm ply. Our ply is sourced from responsible plantations within Europe that plant 3 trees for each 1 that is harvested.
The ply has excellent water resistance, the surface is breathable and water vapour can move freely. This is one of the reasons why our ply will not delaminate, unlike others available. You do not need to treat the ply prior to mounting the box.
The paint used on roofs of boxes (if applicable) is a water based, heat reflective, roofing paint.
All screws used are stainless steel. We design the boxes to minimise our reliance on screws.
Detailed instructions will come with your box.
There is no need to treat or paint the boxes prior to putting them up. If you want to paint the box, we suggest using a water-based, non-toxic paint. Please do not paint over the dark circles on swift boxes - these are visual clues to swifts that there is a nesting cavity.
We suggest inspecting the box once a year when you are very confident there are no nesting birds using it.
